Learning Adapts As A Result of COVID-19

Students, teachers and parets are all learning how to cooperate to ensure e-learning goes as smooth as possible.

Students, teachers and parets are all learning how to cooperate to ensure e-learning goes as smooth as possible.

All around the world schools and businesses are being reshaped due to the outbreak of Covid-19. Since schools are being shut down this means that students and teachers are now relying on E-Learning. The most useful ways of communication for teaching are video chats through an application called Zoom and Google Classroom. But there are some downsides to that.

Many students do not have the equipment needed at home to successfully complete their school work.. That’s why some companies are providing laptops and internet to students in need, for example Spectrum internet has a deal for setting up Chromebooks and internet access for school purposes. The outbreak has made rapid technological improvements to the world. With the world of education still shifting to get used to this, there are more opportunities for uses of online resources.

This is making e-learning more available and to keep students engaged. Since the rest of the school year for most students is canceled, They may consider attending an online college in the future due to getting used to this online learning. It could be more affordable and beneficial for some. For example the University of the People offers 100% online degrees for anyone around the world to obtain.

Trump has stated that quarantine is extended another 30 days to let this virus wash itself out of our country as everyone is on quarantine. “The safety of students and staff is our number one priority every day in each school” as Elkhorn Crossing School stated.

Most schools were supposed to stay closed until April 15, then May 2, and now completely shut down. More than 50% of the world’s population is online for education. Most countries are now using this education process line any other normal day of learning at school. It may not be as efficient, but it keeps mostly all students engaged in learning. The main reason schools are closed are due to physical contact with other students and teachers everyday.

A big problem in education are kids with special needs. They find it very difficult to concentrate with all this online education being shown to them. They also may need the assistance of their in-school instructor at all times like most of these students need. This difficulty of learning for these students may need a new approach in their capabilities in learning.

When this Covid-19 pandemic starts to settle down the world of education may see possible benefits for future online classes, such as studies and degree programs.

Another Pegasus Airlines Plane Crashes

The image shows how the plane split during the crash.

The image shows how the plane split during the crash.

On Wednesday, Feb. 5, a passenger plane skid off the runway and broke into three pieces while landing at Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen airport in Turkey. The Boeing 737 left from Izmir to Istanbul, Turkey.

The plane landed at 6:19 p.m and not long after the skid parts of the plane seemed to have caught on fire. Luckily the fire was extinguished quickly. The second section of the plane, closer to the tail, was broken off in some parts. People were seen crawling out through openings of the plane.

One person died during the accident and another 157 people were injured during the crash, caused by poor weather conditions. Aboard the Pegasus Airlines plane were 183 people, including six crew members, 175 adult passengers and two young children.

The plane skidded up to 60 meters after landing before falling into a ditch about 40 meters down. About 22 of the passengers suffered from injuries on their heads and legs. About 14 passengers suffered from broken bones in different places on the body. Firefighters, police and medics worked diligently around the clock, trying to help passengers and victims evacuate the scene. Dozens of first responders helped passengers reach nearby hospitals.

According to Reuders, the Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca, said that three of the injured required surgery and two needed intensive care but none of the passengers that were injured were thought to be in life threatening danger.

The Weather radar showed a line of thunderstorms during the time of the incident which might have caused winds to pick up and be one of the causes for the crash, but nothing has been confirmed. A similar incident occurred about a month ago on January 7.

A Pegasus plane with 164 people on board skidded off the runway in Istanbul at the same airport. Passengers were able to safely evacuate the plane. No deaths or injuries took place during the incident.

Back in 2018 there was also a similar accident where a plane skid of the runway with 162 passengers on board. Passengers were able to evacuate the plane. No passengers or crew members were hurt during the accident. Pegasus Airlines confirmed that the plane was a Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

The plane was seen sliding down a cliff dangling right above the Black Sea coast. The airport is now closed, flights being prohibited to Istanbul because the Turkish Prosecutor’s office launched an investigation on the case. The airport is taking safety measures seriously due to cases in the past. The Turkish Prosecutor’s office is trying their best to figure out the causes and solutions that need to be put into place to ensure safety.

Cell phones have a variety of potential dangers

Washington Post

X-Ray showing bone spur growing on back of head, one of the negative effects of excessive cellphone usage.

Each day people across the world consistently check their cell phones, looking at a variety of notifications. Many may not realize how much their cell phones affect them. Recent studies are beginning to show how bone spur development can be an effect of cell phone use.

According to the Washington Post, research done by the University of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia proposes a new hypothesis that due to the constant use of cell phones and other hand-held devices, a new bone spur, or “horn”, is developing from the skull of young people. The researchers in charge of the study are David Shahar, a chiropractor who recently completed a PhD in biomechanics at Sunshine Coast, and his supervisor, Mark Sayers, an associate professor of biomechanics at Sunshine Coast.

The study was published in the journal Scientific Reports. Bone spurs are caused by when inflammation damages cartilage that is used to cushion joints and the body attempts to rebuild by growing more bone. One main cause is when humans perform repetitive motions, like consistently looking down at a phone. By doing this for multiple hours a day, bone spurs begin to grow.

This is not the first physical effect of cell phone use on the body. According to ABC News, Margot Miller, a physical therapist and president of Occupational Health Section of the Orthopedic Section of the American Physical Therapy Association, states that the reason for “texting thumb” is  “they are really repetitive stress injuries – pain, numbness, discomfort in the base of the thumbs from overuse.”

By consistently using thumbs to send messages and control a phone, symptoms like “texting thumb” may occur.

Another negative aspect of cell phone use is the constant distraction that they cause. According to NBC News’ article “Cell phone-related head and neck injuries on the rise,” a study published by JAMA Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery observed reports from the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System, looking for injuries and reports related to cell phones.

The authors estimated that based on the reports these kinds of issues were rare until 2007, when the first iPhone was released to the public and injury reports began to rise. The article states that users ages 13 to 29 were about 40 percent of those whose injuries were caused by cell phone distraction. The injuries caused ranged from people falling due to texting while walking, to being hit in the face when their device slipped. The author Dr. Boris Paskhover suggest that a way to help this problem is for people to stop allowing phones to be a distraction and focus on what they are doing.

The harmful effects of cell phone use while driving goes past looking at text. According to ABC News, research at Carnegie Mellon University showed that by studying brain waves, they were able to find that listening to a conversation while driving reduces brain activity designated to driving by 37 percent.

The article suggests that in May 2008 a survey done by Nationwide Insurance Poll displayed that over 40 percent of people surveyed stated they have either been hit or almost hit by another driver talking on a cell phone. This is part of the reason many states, including Florida, have required Hands-Free drivers. As of January 1, Florida officers are to issue tickets to any drivers using their phone, without a warning. The fee is $30, but is doubled in school zones.

People spend hours on end each day looking at cell phones, but don’t realize what effects it could be causing on their bodies. As people become more aware, they will be able to protect themselves from these and many more issues.

SpaceX creates first private shuttle to the International Station

The Crew Dragon shuttle is a private venture, not a public venture, although given major funding from NASA.

As of 2011, NASA retired their line of space shuttles. This means that American astronauts rely on the Russian Soyuz to travel to space. In 2014 this caused NASA to give Boeing $4.2 billion to create the CST-100 Starling, they also gave Elon Musk’s company SpaceX $2.6 billion to develop the Crew Dragon because NASA did not want to continue relying on Russia to send American astronauts to the moon. The Crew Dragon is the solution to this problem, not the private shuttles to Mars, SpaceX’s other major project.

The Crew Dragon is the first of its kind to be developed. The shuttle is the first American space craft to automatically dock at the International Space Station, is the only commercial shuttle to deliver cargo to the International Space Station, and is the only space craft with the ability to return cargo to Earth. The shuttle will also be free flying, meaning it will be autonomous, but on-board astronauts have the ability to monitor and control the shuttle when necessary.

The sleek interior of the Crew Dragon has room for up to seven people.

When the shuttle launches for the International Space Station, it leaves from the Kennedy Space center in Cape Canaveral, Fla., the launch site for all of NASA’s missions to the moon as well as shuttles to the International Space Center.

The development of the shuttle has not been simple for SpaceX, but there have been more triumphs than challenges. The major challenge in the shuttle’s development occurred in April of 2019 when the shuttle exploded during a test. The shuttle failed the launch-abort engines test, which is designed to test a rocket’s system in response to an emergency during the launch or as the rocket is in flight. According to NBC, the failure caused a great concern for the human tests that had been scheduled for later in the year.

The astronaut trials have been pushed back due to the launch failure, as the company had to ensure the problem was solved. According to Musk and NASA officials at a headquarters vent October 10, astronaut tests, Demo 2, should be expected in the first quarter of next year, from January to March 2020.

On the other hand, recently many improvements have been made. The shuttle passed 13 Mark 3 parachute tests and the SuperDraco thrusters, which power the escape system, were successfully added October 29, as shown on the SpaceX official Twitter.

The technology to take humans to the International Space Station is becoming more complex. The continued developments are making the shuttle more complex and more efficient. Once the Crew Dragon is fully operational, the U.S. Space Program will be autonomous once again.

Disney to launch its own streaming service

Daily Dot

Last year, Disney announced that it would be launching its own paid streaming service in 2019. The new platform is set to stream all pre-existing and upcoming Disney films and TV shows. A name for the service has not yet been decided but many are calling the new service “Disney Play” or “Disneyflix.”

Disney acquired the majority of BAMTech, a technology provider and steaming giant, to create the subscription service in a 1.58 billion deal. BAMTech powers streaming for MLB, WWE, HBO, and NHL.

A 2012 deal allowed Netflix to stream Disney films, but with the announcement of the new service came the news that all Disney and Pixar titles would be pulled from Netflix in 2020.

Disney wants to produce new original films and TV shows for the subscription service. A live-action Stars Wars series has been confirmed for the subscription service. Disney is also planning to create new shows based around characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe such as Loki and The Scarlet Witch.

The platform will not have any R-rated films, and instead these films will be streamed on Hulu, which Disney owns part of. An official subscription price has not yet been announced but Disney is aiming for the service to cost less than Netflix.

A Fake Vine 2 App is Fooling the Internet

Fake "Vine" comeback

In October of 2016, it was announced that the popular mobile app, Vine, would be shutting down. Twitter bought the video-sharing service back and 2012 and ultimately made the decision to delete it.

The end of Vine sparked overwhelming outcry from the public, with people creating petitions and sending angry letters to Twitter in hopes that the social media giant would bring Vine back. But Twitter refused to relent and the Vine app was shut down in early 2017.

Though Twitter rejected to listen to the public, Dom Hofman, one of the founders of Vine, did not. Hofman announced that he was going to make a second vine app, called “V2”, tweeting, “I’m going to work on a follow-up to Vine. I’ve been feeling it myself for some time and have seen a lot of tweets, dms, etc.”

There was a roar of excitement from former Vine users after Hofman’s big announcement. People were very eager to be able to create more vines.

Unfortunately, On May 4, Hofman tweeted that the second Vine would be postponed for “an indefinite amount of time.” He explained that financial and legal difficulties were the reason for the halt in production.

Recently, a company called ‘VidWorld Labs AB’ created a Vine-style app called V2. Many people downloaded it thinking it was the official second Vine as it had the same name as the app that the vine creators were working on. The internet was buzzing, with everyone discussing the return of Vine on Twitter and Instagram. Even former Vine stars were downloading the fraudulent app and posting on social media about it.

Shortly after the fake Vine 2 came out, the real V2 app released a statement on Twitter, saying “Unfortunately, we are not currently in the app store. That is an impersonation.” They also went on to explain that when released, “V2” will no longer be the app’s name.

The fake V2 only permitted users to sign up using their Facebook or Instagram accounts. Now that it has been confirmed that V2 is not the real Vine sequel, many are worried that their login info to these accounts is being used for the wrong reasons.

New iPhones Released

New iPhones Released

Tampa Bay, Fla.–Apple has recently introduced three new iPhones: The iPhone XS, the iPhone XS Max and the iPhone XR.

This makes iPhone prices expensive, however, because these three phones grow the iPhone line to eleven generations on the iOS operating system. The ongoing trade war between the United States and China will also impact the growing costs of these phones. Apple continues to build iPhones in China and import parts for the phones from overseas, but the phones themselves are designed in California. Apple is going to face political and regulatory challenges due to the 2018 United States-China trade war, and the proposed tariffs United States President Trump has issued on Chinese imports. Because China is paying more for Apple products, the additional expense will make the cost of the final product more expensive for American consumers.

The cost of the iPhone XS can go from 999 dollars up to 1,349 dollars. The XS Max can go from 1,099 dollars to 1,449 dollars. The XR will be released on October 19, 2018. The price of the iPhone XR would be 749 dollars to 899 dollars.

The new iPhones along with the previous iPhone X will feature the face ID where you can unlock your phone by just simply showing your face which will give the user access to his or her music, games and applications. The iPhones are also getting bigger in size.
