Disney Springs Prepares to Reopen

As Florida eases social distancing regulations, Disney Springs will be the first major attraction in Florida to reopen.

As Florida eases social distancing regulations, Disney Springs will be the first major attraction in Florida to reopen.

On Thursday, May 7, Walt Disney World Company made a statement that they will begin to reopen the Disney Springs shopping center in accordance with the current government and CDC guidelines in place.

The parks had originally closed on March 15, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic as an effort to help flatten the curve and keep guests safe. Late evening on Thursday, the Vice President of Disney Springs Matt Simon announced the partial reopening of Disney Springs.

The area will begin opening by using a series of phases making sure to keep all cast members, employees, and guests as safe as possible. No word has yet been stated on what exact stores or restaurants will be opening at this time.

The reopening of the springs is scheduled to begin on May 20, 2020, while the rest of the theme parks are currently planning on remaining closed with no plan to reopen in the near future. The initial opening phase will include limitations on capacity, parking, and operating hours.

The reopening will have new implemented safety measures including increased cleaning procedures, face coverings required by members of the cast and the visiting guests, and limited contact with guest services. Cast members will be required to attend additional safety training to help prepare for the reopening and return to work.

Simon states that the company will begin to use “learnings and ideas from leaders in the health and travel industries” and has been communicating with their unions on the proper ways to go about the shopping center’s reopening.

According to FOX 35, the reopening of the center will be partially modeled after the reopening at Shanghai’s Disney Town, a modified version of Disney Springs, which had reopened in early March, and Shanghai’s Disneyland, set to open May 11.

The measures that were put in place on this park included a limited capacity of 30%, requirements for getting guests temperature checked at all entrances, and mandatory masks to be worn by guests. FOX 35 also states that visitors will be required to pass a health screening via a mobile app.  Many await the results of this opening in hopes of it shortening the timeline of the phases, causing the parks to open quicker.

Disney plans additional information considering procedures and protocols to be announced closer to the opening date. As the date draws closer they recommend checking  DisneySprings.com for more up to date information.

Beloved country singer Kenny Rogers sadly passed away of natural causes at 81 years old.

COUNTRY MUSIC LOSES ONE OF ITS FINEST

Country Music star Kenny Rogers died on March 20th in his home in Sandy Springs, Georgia.  Known for blurring the line between country and pop music, Rogers’ music career lasted 60 years beginning with his 1957 single “That Crazy Feeling.”  Rogers spent the early years of his career in a jazz band and later a folk music band, but his solo career took off in 1978 with “Lucille,” winning him the first of four Grammy Awards.  Rogers released his last song, “Once Again Its Christmas,” in 2015 and went on his final tour in three days later, visiting only five cities.

Rogers was briefly hospitalized in May of 2019 for dehydration, but afterwards said he planned on “sticking around through the years to come.”  However, Rogers passed under the care of hospice from natural causes according to a family spokesman.

Celebrities took to the internet mourning the death of the county legend, including Dolly Parton, who sang the hit duet “Islands in the Stream” with Rogers. “I love Kenny with all my heart.  My heart is broken,” she said.

Sarah Trahern, chief executive officer of the Country Music Association, spoke of his fame, saying, “He was a global superstar who helped introduce country music to audiences around the world.”

The Gambler is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, and nephews.

TOM BRADYT AND THE TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS

Future NFL Hall of Famer Tom Brady, 42, signed a two-year contract worthy of up to $59 million with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the 2020 season on March 20th.  After spending his first 20 years with the New England Patriots and earning six Superbowl rings, Brady comes to the Bucs “excited, humbled, and hungry,” per his official announcement of the deal on Instagram.

Brady has made nine Superbowl appearances, but joins the Bucs, who currently have the second-longest active playoff drought and only one Superbowl win.  The Buccaneers are looking forward an added spark of the leadership as well as the postseason experience Brady can bring to the team. Following the signing, Bucs second year head coach Bruce Arians said, “Tom is the most successful quarterback in the history, but what makes special is his ability to make those around him better.”

Tampa fans have high hopes going into the 2020 season while Boston fans mourn the loss of their football star.  Codey Winters, a Buccaneers fan commented on the Twitter announcement, saying “This is the start of something special.”  Jeff Fuller, a Patriots fan, commented, saying, “From Pats fan to Bucs fan, you guys are getting the hardest working and greatest QB ever.”

FIRST LAUNCH OF THE UNITED STATES SPACE FORCE

President Trump signed legislation creating the US Space Force December 20th, 2019, thus creating the sixth branch of US armed forces.  The Space Force is the first addition to the Armed Forces since 1947, when President Truman created the Air Force.  The Space Force will maintain US dominance in space by collecting information and relaying communications around the world.

On March 26th, the first national security mission of the USSF launched the Advanced Extremely High Frequency satellite (AEHF) from Port Canaveral.  A representative for Lockheed Martin, the contractor for the AEHF satellite, released a statement saying, “The Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) system provides vastly improved global, survivable, protected communications capabilities for strategic command and tactical warfighters operating on ground, sea and air platforms. The jam-resistant system also serves international partners including Canada, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.”

After a short delay Thursday afternoon due to a misreading of the hydraulic equipment, the rocket was launched with the satellite from the east coast of Florida.  The information that will be communicated from the satellite should last beyond 2030, according to Lieutenant General John F Thompson, Commander of the Space and Missiles Systems Centre in California.

DISNEY WELCOMES ZEBRA FILLY AND PORCUPETTE

Although Disney has closed its doors to humans in the wake of the Coronavirus, they are still welcoming new animal guests to their parks.  Disney’s Animal Kingdom recently welcomed a female young porcupine and zebra foal to the park, making the announcement on their Instagram page.

The baby porcupine, or porcupette, was born on February 25th to mother Peri.  Peri was featured during her pregnancy with vet Natalie Mylniczenko on the “One Day at Disney” documentary on Disney+.  The prehensile tail porcupette will become part of the Species Survival Plan, a plan to preserve threatened or endangered species.  The Disney veterinary team tested her small, red quills to determine her gender. Peri and her mother are staying at Animal Kingdom’s Conservation Station.

Just after the birth of the young porcupine, Disney’s zebra mother, Heidi, welcomed her first offspring.  The zebra foal is yet to be named, but, according to reports, is strong and healthy. The 65-pound filly was standing within a half hour of being born.  Mark Penning, the Vice President of Animals, Science, and Environment at Disney’s parks, said the foal will take the next few weeks to bond with her mother.  The baby will have the chance to memorize her mother’s scent and unique markings before being introduced to the Kilimanjaro Safari’s Savannah.

Disney expands Disney World Parks

The global phenomenon,

Courtesy of Disney Parks

The global phenomenon, "Star Wars" is one of several beloved Disney films recieving an attraction.

Walt Disney world has been making dreams come true since 1971, and continues to do that to this day. This beloved theme park is constantly expanding their horizons, and trying to outdo itself by creating new attractions to their park.

One of the most recent attractions that has been added to Walt Disney World has been the addition of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios. Galaxy’s Edge is based on the Star Wars films, and has much to offer its travelers that visit the land.

There are two new rides within this land: one is called Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, and the other is called Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.

On Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, guests get to participate in the storyline of the ride, almost like they are actually in the movie. Visitors have the choices of being an engineer, gunner, or pilot in this ride, and each role has a certain job that interacts with the ride.

On Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, there is more to the attraction than just the ride itself. Gusts get to experience the attraction in the line with cast members participating in a storyline to make visitors feel as if they are apart of the Star Wars saga.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge not only has thrilling rides, but also some mind blowing experiences. Galaxy’s Edge has workshops where guests are able to create their own custom light saber and can build a specially made droid. Guests can also visit Oga’s Cantina to have a little taste of what it is like to be apart of Star Wars. With all of the experience Galaxy’s Edge has to offer, no one will ever want to leave. When guests visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, they are in their own Star Wars story.

Galaxy’s Edge is not the only thing that Walt Disney World has up their sleeve. On March 4, 2020, the newest ride at Walt Disney World opened and people are lining up for this anticipated attraction. The latest attraction is called Mickey and Minnie‘s Runaway Railway, and like Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the ride is also located in Hollywood Studios.

This attraction is the first ride to be based off of Disney’s main characters; it will feature The Fab Five: Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Minnie Mouse, and, of course the man himself, Mickey Mouse. In this ride, guests will be able to go on an adventure with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse filled with twists and turns around every corner.

Mickey and Minnie‘s Runaway Railway replace The Great Movie Ride in Hollywood Studios’ Chinese Theater, which is bittersweet because while Disney lost such an iconic attraction they have created this brand new ride that will live up to the guests’ expectations.

These are not the only things that Disney is doing to expand their theme park. In Disney’s Epcot, there is a whole lot more to expect in the upcoming years. Currently, Epcot is building their latest attraction, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, in their World Showcase.

The ride will open the summer of 2020, and will be located in the France area of the World Showcase. Epcot is expanding far and wide to include a full lineup of new attractions, including, but not limited to, a Mary Poppins attraction, a Moana experience, a Guardians of the Galaxy ride, and so much more.

Aladdin The Musical comes to Tampa

Aladdin the musical is a Braoday musical that tours the world, showcasing their talent acoss the globe.

Broadway.org

Aladdin the musical is a Braoday musical that tours the world, showcasing their talent acoss the globe.

The iconic 1992 Disney classic, Aladdin, became an on-stage production to bring the mystical city of Agrabar to audiences across the country in 2011.  In December, the 2019 Aladdin Tour brought the story of a “street rat’s” efforts to win Princess Jasmine’s heart to Morsani Hall in Tampa’s Straz Center.

The magical experience began at the doors when guests were met by enthusiastic greeters to be directed to their seats and to various locations inside the center for commemorative pictures.  The adaptation included 11 more songs than the original Tim Rice animated screenplay.

The new songs developed Aladdin’s character, played by Jonah Ho’okano, and motivation to become more than a “street rat” in a rendition of “Proud of Your Boy” which Aladdin emotionally dedicated to his mother. The emotional new songs not only gave the actors more solos but provided insight and back story of the characters that the animated version did not.

Kaenaon Alani Kekoa’s powerful, yet fluid voice filled the stage in her first song as Jasmine with “These Palace Walls.”  While her solos stood out, her voice was overshadowed and lost in her duets with childhood friend Ho’okano, whose seven years of experience showed in his flawless performance.

The on-stage adaptation included three friends for Aladdin to fill in for Abu, Aladdin’s monkey sidekick in the animated movie.  However, Babkak (Zach Bencal), Omar (Ben Chavez), and Kassim (Colt Prattes) were irrelevant and seemed to be randomly tossed in throughout the duration of the play.  Prattes’s emphatic voice, however, emerged in his solos of the songs the trio sang and saved the scenes the friends were in, but their roles seemed incongruous and mistimed to the storyline.

Korie Lee Blossey, who played Genie, and Ho’okano had indisputable chemistry.  Their dialogue seemed genuine and flowed naturally as their jokes bounced off each other, like a veteran comedy team.  In one of his scenes with Genie, Ho’okano broke character and laughed at a few of Genie’s jokes before regaining his composure.  The natural friendship between the actors made Aladdin’s scenes with Genie the best part of the play.

Iago (Reggie De Leon), Jafar’s sidekick, was overly dramatic and his performance took away from what should have been more serious scenes.  His part, like Aladdin’s friends, could have been left out of the show entirely. Genie begged for applause and laughs at the beginning by trying to rally the crowd, seemingly sitting on their hands, after some of his jokes didn’t land.  Although his performance was not comparable to Robin William’s (but then again, whose could be?), he played the part well and tied the scenes together seamlessly.

The sets designed for the play were terribly underdone.  The marketplace was far too simple and the small ensemble didn’t compensate for the lacking backdrop.  The same was true for the scenes in the palace.

The palace should have been elegant, as it was the palace of a sultan, but instead was disappointing and simple.  By comparison, however, the scene in the Cave of Wonders was exaggerated, a stark contrast to the rest of the play.  The Cave of Wonders shouldn’t have been the scene to have the large set since it was only used for one scene. The simple sets allowed the elegant and colorful costumes to stand out but was ultimately disappointing.

Nichole Sullivan saw the performance for the second time on December 26th and said, “I like it better than the first time I saw it…I saw it the first time and I think I expected it to be amazing, but I was a little disappointed.”  She said her expectations were lower this time, which made this performance more enjoyable.

“The tour will be coming to a close in April, and the reason being is that this show itself is just too big to fit other stages,” said Matthew Watson, a member of the orchestra.  Michelle West, an ensemble member of the production, explained that the show can only fit a few stages which limits the tour to a few cities in the country.

Overall, the Broadway adaptation of Aladdin, in true Disney fashion, fulfilled all expectations, providing a unique on-stage Disney experience for Aladdin and Disney fans.

Baby Yoda takes over the world

The+adorable+%22Baby+Yoda%22+captured+the+hearts+of+Disney%2B+users%2C+as+well+as+the+rest+of+the+Internet.+Social+Media+exploded+with+memes+showing+admiration+for+the+creature

Oprah Magazine

The adorable "Baby Yoda" captured the hearts of Disney+ users, as well as the rest of the Internet. Social Media exploded with memes showing admiration for the creature

Disney Plus, the latest streaming service, has and continues to come out with many of its own original TV shows and movies, including High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, Diary of a Future President, Stargirl, and many more.

One of Disney Plus’s more popular shows, The Mandalorian, has had a more attention than all of the other shows. The reason for all of this attention toward the show is because of one tiny aspect, a little character that Star Wars fans indicate as “Baby Yoda.”

The Mandalorian is the first live action Star Wars television show that takes place on the official Star Wars timeline between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, and it is inspired by the classic Star Wars character, Boba Fett. This television show stars prior Game of Thrones actor Pedro Pasco, former mixed martial artist Gina Carano, and successful actor Carl Weathers. They all play such important roles in the television show, but the one character to pay attention to is Baby Yoda.

“Baby Yoda” refers to a character in the Star Wars series named Yoda, who was a wise master in the Star Wars franchise. In The Mandalorian, “Baby Yoda” is not the actual name of the character, it is officially called “The Child,” but with its resemblance to Yoda from Star Wars the Internet has taken the liberty to give it the name “Baby Yoda.”  From this television show, Baby Yoda has gone viral throughout the Internet creating videos, art, memes, and even merchandise.

ShopDisney has taken this opportunity to create merchandise that is exclusively dedicated to Baby Yoda. On their website, shopdisney.com, when “Baby Yoda” is typed into the search bar, Baby Yoda shirts, water bottles, phone cases, plushes, bags, and even mugs will pop up for anyone to shop until their heart’s content.

Along with ShopDisney, big companies like Build-A-Bear Workshop are getting in on all the action. The CEO of Build-A-Bear Workshop, Sharon Price John, has recently announced that Baby Yoda will soon be available at Build-A-Bear Workshops nationwide. Baby Yoda is inspiring almost every audience, whether it is someone making a meme, outfit, or baked good, everyone is able to be enthused by Baby Yoda.

Baby Yoda has taken over the Internet since The Mandalorian introduced this character to the world. This popularity for Baby Yoda has definitely made a big impact not only for the television show itself, but also the Internet. There are multiple things that make Baby Yoda wildly popular; he has power within him, a sense of mystery about him, and most importantly, he is a very adorable creature. All of this draws the viewer’s attention to Baby Yoda, thus outlining his fame.

Baby Yoda has stolen the hearts of all of its viewers and has gone viral because of his lovable persona. With The Mandalorian exceeding the crowd’s expectations with Baby Yoda, there should be much more to anticipate out of the popular television show.

Disney+ streaming service is to arrive soon

This is the logo for the new straeming service coming November 12, 2019

This is the logo for the new straeming service coming November 12, 2019

In this day and age, the public can watch whatever they want, whenever they want.  With media service providers such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video almost any movie or television show is available to people with just the press of a button. Now there is new competition for these companies arising within the industry, it’s called Disney+. Disney has created its own media streaming service that will be released on November 12, 2019, and it will include movies and television shows from Disney, Pixar, National Geographic, Star Wars, and Marvel Studios.

With all of these shows and movies being on Disney+, companies like Hulu and Netflix are going to have to compete with even more competition. Disney is also taking some programs from different film industries, more specifically 21st Century Fox’s programs, such as The Simpsons and The Sound of Music. So it is not just Disney projects, but Disney is also taking from other companies as well.

In addition to posting old shows and movies, Disney+ will also make brand new television shows and films that are coming out with Disney+. Like Netflix and their own original shows and movies like Stranger Things, Disney has made a whole line up of brand new original shows and movies that can only be seen through Disney+. There will be new live-action movies, spin-offs, original films, and so much more. With all of these new projects going onto Disney+, there will also be many old shows and movies going on as well. These old films will be anything from The Parent Trap, to Hannah Montana. Disney+ will have all old, current, and new programs available to their customers.

Disney+ is going to make it harder for the other straming services to match the content available on their website. Many viewers are being drawn from the old services to Disney+.  With this new competition, a lot of things are about to change.

Disney Bans Smoking and Over-sized Strollers in its Theme Parks

Smoking+regulations+are+now+in+affect+at+Disney+theme+parks.

Disney

Smoking regulations are now in affect at Disney theme parks.

Earlier this year, Florida’s Disney theme parks concluded that the toleration of designated smoking and large strollers would be banned from their facilities. Claims state that the announced ban will allow for guests to have a more enjoyable time in each park. The removal of such will allow for guests to move along more freely without the feeling of being congested by others who are taking up too much space.

While the ban has set to be in effect as of May 1st, Disney has also reported that loose and dry ice, generally carried by a guest containing the ice in a cooler, to also be banned. The report states the the loose and dry ice ban is in effect immediately after announcement.

Various sources have expressed their views on the matter and while some believe that the new policy is a plausible decision, others have expressed their annoyance with the ban.

According to the New York Times, the President of the International Theme Park Service, Dennis Speigel, stated that the Disney theme parks chose the “right course.” He continued to explain that in a family-oriented setting, nobody wants to encounter a person smoking.

Alongside the distraction of a smoking individual in a family-crowded facility, smoking in general poses a health risk toward the other guests inside the Disney parks themselves.

At Durant High School, 12th grader, Kyle Harper, explained that those who are smoking in the theme park create a hazard toward guests who have a difficulty breathing or struggle with asthma-related symptoms.

“Including myself, it’s not fair for those who have to worry about other people spreading hazardous smoke in the air at a theme park like Disney, where they should be able to enjoy their visit without worrying about symptoms acting up,” Harper said.

Even though smoking may be an enjoyable way for people to relax at their favorite theme park, other guests are put at an unfair risk. With the new rule being put in place, Disney hopes  that their action will allow all of its guests to feel safe from hazardous chemicals that put their health at risk.

According to a New York-based study in 2007, provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,  scientists concluded that the implementation of laws prohibiting smoking in restaurants, bars and other indoor workplaces would reduce the amount of hospital admissions for myocardial infarction in 2004.

Disney’s new rules will completely reduce the number of guests who are victim to secondhand smoking on theme park property.

In addition to the composed health risks, guests who are victim to secondhand smoking would face congestion within the theme parks due to guests taking up space to smoke. Confirmed in an interview by the Tampa Bay Times, the communications manager at Walt Disney World Resort, Lisa Mendillo, stated that designated smoking areas will no longer be available to guests to clear space in the park.

Another ban taking place to clear up the congestion within the walkways of Disney parks is the prohibition of oversized strollers. Strollers that exceed a width of 31 inches or a length of 52 inches will now be prohibited nder Disney’s new restrictions.

Among the list of banned strollers, the infamous “wagon stroller” (pictured above) is no longer accepted into Disney theme parks. Photo by FavoriteGrampy.com

Similarly to the smoking ban, the banning of oversized strollers will allow Disney fans to walk more freely among the parks.

Durant High School seniors, Delton Newsome and Omar Gonzalez, shared their views on the current circumstance of oversized strollers in Disney parks.

“A larger stroller could be used to contain important supplies that a parent may need to provide aid to their kids,” Newsome stated.

While it is important for a parent to meet the needs of their children, Newsome agreed with the Disney’s restriction because certain strollers may be excessive. Restricted oversized strollers allow for guests to walk around the park with more ease.

“The rule is justified for those who want to walk around the parks more freely because too many families take advantage of the walking space that Disney provides for every guest,” Gonzalez added.

In order to make the parks safer and easier to maneuver to guests, Disney’s new restricts are now in affect until bigger issues arise. For more information regarding Disney’s park restrictions and policies, visit the official Walt Disney World website.

“Frozen 2” to be released in 2019

%22Frozen+2%22+to+be+released+in+2019

insidethemagic.net

Pixar’s Frozen proved to be an enormous success, earning a whopping $1.3 billion at the box office and earning the title of the highest grossing animated film in history.  Frozen’s impact spreads farther than the theater, as you can find Frozen toys and merchandise almost everywhere. The film even got its own Broadway show.

A Frozen sequel was announced back in 2015 and has been in the works for the past two years.

The four core cast members, Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathon Groff, and Josh Gad are all confirmed for the new film along with some new cast members. According to Variety, Sterling K. Brown and Evan Rachel Wood are set to play roles in Frozen 2, though their characters have not yet been announced. Directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck are also returning for the movie.

The songwriters from the original films are working on Frozen 2 as well, and four songs have already been written for the movie so far.

While little information has been revealed regarding the plot, it has been revealed that Anna and Elsa will embark on an adventure far from their home, Arendelle. It has also been said that the audience will get to know Anna and Elsa better in the new film.

According to DigitalSpy, filmmakers established the end of the movie before anything and are working backward from there.

The sequel is set to hit theaters on Nov. 22, 2019.

Disney to launch its own streaming service

Disney+to+launch+its+own+streaming+service

Daily Dot

Last year, Disney announced that it would be launching its own paid streaming service in 2019. The new platform is set to stream all pre-existing and upcoming Disney films and TV shows. A name for the service has not yet been decided but many are calling the new service “Disney Play” or “Disneyflix.”

Disney acquired the majority of BAMTech, a technology provider and steaming giant, to create the subscription service in a 1.58 billion deal. BAMTech powers streaming for MLB, WWE, HBO, and NHL.

A 2012 deal allowed Netflix to stream Disney films, but with the announcement of the new service came the news that all Disney and Pixar titles would be pulled from Netflix in 2020.

Disney wants to produce new original films and TV shows for the subscription service. A live-action Stars Wars series has been confirmed for the subscription service. Disney is also planning to create new shows based around characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe such as Loki and The Scarlet Witch.

The platform will not have any R-rated films, and instead these films will be streamed on Hulu, which Disney owns part of. An official subscription price has not yet been announced but Disney is aiming for the service to cost less than Netflix.
